Our Projects

1. Local Rights Program (LRP 2)

Local Rights Program 2 (LRP2) is a comprehensive, multi-sector initiative funded by ActionAid Italy, and implemented by PACo in partnership with ActionAid Afghanistan since 2013. The program covers 22 communities, achieving full district-level coverage in Muradin district, Jawzjan province.

LRP2 is designed to address both immediate needs and long-term development through an integrated approach, with a strong focus on:

• Women’s empowerment
• Child protection
• Sustainable livelihoods and agriculture
• Food security
• Education
• Local governance and peacebuilding
• Humanitarian response and resilience

By working closely with local communities, the program strengthens grassroots structures, promotes inclusive development, and ensures that marginalized groups, especially women and children, can claim their rights and participate meaningfully in shaping their futures.

2. Local Rights Program (LRP 12)

Local Rights Program 12 (LRP12) is a comprehensive, multi-sector initiative funded by ActionAid Italy, and implemented by PACo in partnership with ActionAid Afghanistan since 2015. The program covers 18 communities, achieving full district-level coverage in Khamab district, Jawzjan province.

LRP12 is designed to address both immediate needs and long-term development through an integrated approach, with a strong focus on:

• Women’s empowerment
• Child protection
• Sustainable livelihoods and agriculture
• Food security
• Education
• Local governance and peacebuilding
• Humanitarian response and resilience

By working closely with local communities, the program strengthens grassroots structures, promotes inclusive development, and ensures that marginalized groups, especially women and children, can claim their rights and participate meaningfully in shaping their futures.

3. REALISE

This project is funded by Australian Aid (DFAT) through the ACRS scheme and is implemented in partnership with ActionAid Afghanistan. The initiative designed to promote resilient agriculture and sustainable livelihoods for the socio-economic empowerment of communities in Jawzjan province, with a primary focus on food security, women, and youth economic empowerment.

Key Objectives and Interventions

The project provides a comprehensive package of support aimed at strengthening local capacity and building long-term resilience. Core components include:

• Vocational training in marketable skills to improve employability and income generation.
• Promotion of sustainable agriculture and livelihood practices, including:
  • Establishment of community and district-level enterprises and production groups.
  • Support for value chain development and market linkages.
• Implementation of infrastructure projects aligned with community priorities (subject to available funding), including:
  • Road construction to improve market access.
  • Protection wall construction to safeguard livelihoods and vulnerable residential areas.
  • Drilling of wells for drinking water and agricultural use.
  • Restoration of agricultural land and the establishment of demonstration plots for hands-on agricultural learning.

Agricultural Innovation and Food Security

The project promotes the adoption of climate-smart agricultural technologies, including:

• Greenhouses and drip irrigation systems.
• Expansion of solar-powered irrigation.
• Support for backyard gardening to enhance household nutrition.
• Distribution of foundation seeds, goats, bees, and poultry.
• Training on nutrition, livestock feed production (e.g., feed blocks, concentrate, and urea-treated feed), and compost making.

Community Empowerment and Market Access

The project further strengthens community resilience through:

• Establishment and support of farmer networks to improve market access.
• Facilitation of participation in provincial and regional agricultural exhibitions.
• Support for the organizational development of youth associations and production groups, including:
  • Establishing association and production groups at district level
  • Assist the established association and production group on administrative setup, and  organization development
  • Legal registration of entities.
  • Funding the association’s strategic priorities as a startup initiative.
  • Capacity building through training in organizational development, policy and procedure development, and market linkage strategies

4. AFG-1184

This project aims to enhance livelihoods, agriculture, and food and nutrition security in the Khanaqa district of Jawzjan province, and the Hazrat Sultan and Aybak districts of Samangan province. The initiative supports rural communities through a variety of sustainable and impactful interventions.

Key activities include:

• Provision of improved seeds and introduction of modern agricultural techniques, such as greenhouse promotion.
• Capacity building for farmers in areas such as mulching, compost production, nutrition, food processing, and personal and food hygiene—with a particular focus on training women.
• Livestock support, including the distribution of goats and poultry, livestock feed, and training on the production of nutritious fodder (e.g., urea-treated straw and concentrated feed blocks).
• Provision of wool shearing machines to improve livestock productivity and income.
• Distribution of solar dryers to improve food preservation and reduce post-harvest losses.
• Establishing Seed and Grain Banks to improve farmer access to improved seed, as well as establish a community-driven social safety net to provide food to the poorest and affected population during an emergency.

In addition to technical support, the project emphasizes community empowerment, enabling local people to develop district level food security plan and advocate for their rights , particularly the right to adequate food and table their food security plan to relevant duty bearers at the district and provincial levels.

5. OSRO-AFG 110 & 120

This project is funded by UNFAO and implemented in 3 districts of Jawzjan. The initiative designed to promote resilient agriculture and sustainable livelihoods for the socio-economic empowerment of communities in Jawzjan province, with a primary focus on emergency livelihood protection and food security. The project’s Major intervention involved:

• Wheat seed package (50kg certified wheat seed, 50kg Urea, 50kg DAP per beneficiary) distribution

• Livestock feed package (200kg Concentrated feed per beneficiary) Distribution

• Technical training organized on agriculture and livestock good practices for the target beneficiaries

 6.OSRO-AFG 215

This project is funded by UNFAO and implemented in 3 districts of Jawzjan. The initiative designed to promote resilient agriculture and sustainable livelihoods for the socio-economic empowerment of communities in Jawzjan province, with a primary focus on emergency livelihood protection and food security. The project’s Major intervention involved:

• Wheat seed package (50kg certified wheat seed, 50kg Urea, 50kg DAP per beneficiary) distribution

•     Livestock feed package (200kg Concentrated feed per beneficiary) Distribution.
Cash (80 USD / household) distribution for livelihood protection

• Technical training organized on agriculture and livestock good practices for the target beneficiaries

7. DPRF/ HSD Project

 The project funded by Actionaid, with the purpose to provide humanitarian Support to the displaced, drought affected and COVID-19-affected people of Afghanistan ( DPRF/HSD). Covering Kabul and Samangan provinces. The project major interventions include

 ·         Distribution of Cash for food security

 ·         Distribution of Multipurpose Cash and

 ·      Distribution of hygiene and dignity kits

8. COMMUNITY MOBILIZATOIN AND ENGAGEMENT  (CME ) PROJECT

The project, funded by UNHCR, covers three northern provinces: Balkh, Jawzjan, and Faryab. It aims to mobilize both the PoC and host communities for reintegration, enhancing PoC engagement and participation in CDCs and Shuras by adding and strengthening PoC representation. The initiative will foster an enabling environment for inclusive community decision-making, benefiting PoC and vulnerable host populations, while also empowering women through increased participation, economic opportunities, and skill development in vocational training and literacy.

Specifically, the project will focus on expanding PoC representation within host communities and IDP pockets; training 60 new and established community elders and leaders; organizing vocational skills training for 200 women and girls; and providing hygiene, health awareness, literacy, and numeracy training to 200 women and girls.

 9. CO-PROSPER-2023

The Co-PROSPER-2023 project, funded by UNHCR, aims to empower women and girls who have been deprived of education in the provinces of Balkh, Jawzjan, Faryab, Saripul, and Samangan. The project delivers literacy training and facilitates access to maternal and feminine health services through basic health and hygiene awareness sessions and the distribution of hygiene and dignity kits. In addition, the project provides livelihood support by offering vocational training in tailoring, food processing, soap making, and wool spinning, complemented by the distribution of relevant toolkits upon completion of the training. The project also seeks to enhance access to education, markets, and public services for persons with specific needs (PwSN), children and other vulnerable members of host communities by constructing and upgrading two schools and building 8.015 km of road across the five targeted provinces.

10. CO-PROSPER-2024

The Co-PROSPER-2024 project, funded by UNHCR, aims to strengthen midwifery services in remote areas by building a dedicated midwifery cadre, economically empower communities through diversified livelihood support, and enhance the quality of education through the provision of safe and secure learning environments. This includes supplying furniture for students, teachers, and school management, offering technical assistance in designing school and health clinic infrastructure, and supporting the monitoring and supervision of construction projects. The project operates across the North and Northeast regions, covering the provinces of Balkh, Jawzjan, Sarepul, Faryab, Samangan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhar, and Badakhshan. Key activities include facilitating midwifery education, stationery and required tools, organizing trainings on tailoring, handicrafts, and beekeeping, followed by the distribution of complete beekeeping toolkits, equipment, and beehives; providing furniture to nine schools; and conducting provincial-level technical monitoring of UNHCR-supported construction projects in the targeted regions.

11.OSRO/AFG/217/CHG

This project is funded by UNFAO and implemented in 6 districts of Kabul province. The initiative is designed to protect livelihoods and promote resilient agriculture and sustainable livelihoods of affected communities in Kabul province, with a primary focus on agriculture and livestock emergency protection and food security. The project’s Major intervention involved:

        ·      Wheat seed package (50kg certified wheat seed, 50kg Urea, 50kg DAP per beneficiary) distribution

        ·       Livestock feed package (200kg Concentrated feed per beneficiary) Distribution.

        ·      Technical training organized on agriculture and livestock good practices for the target beneficiaries

12.OSRO/AFG/203/ASB& 129/ASB

This project is funded by UNFAO and implemented in 14 districts of Kabul province. The initiative is designed to protect livelihoods and promote resilient agriculture and sustainable livelihoods of affected communities in Kabul province, with a primary focus on agriculture and livestock emergency protection and food security. The project’s Major intervention involved:

         ·      Wheat seed package (50kg certified wheat seed, 50kg Urea, 50kg DAP per beneficiary) distribution

         ·      Livestock feed package (200kg Concentrated feed per beneficiary) Distribution.

         ·      Technical training organized on agriculture and livestock good practices for the target beneficiaries

 13. OSR/AFG/140/WBK

This project is funded by UNFAO and implemented in 14 rural districts of Kabul province, with the purpose to improve food security, increasing fruit/nuts and livestock production to sustain the livelihoods of local farmers and herders by assisting in Agroforestry practices in their existing crop lands as well as rehabilitating and restoring degraded rangeland through improved artificial reseeding and rangeland improved management practices.  The project’s major interventions include;

·         Wheat seed package (50kg certified wheat seed, 50kg Urea, 50kg DAP per beneficiary) distribution

·         Solar dryer Distribution for women farmers and herders.

·         Promote industrial and medicine crepe through distribution of Ferola and Saffron experimentation.

·         Establishing orchards and promoting a high-intensity orchard  

·         Technical training on agriculture, Ferol, Safron, Solar dryer, and livestock for the beneficiary

·         Build watershed through CFW intervention

·         Train CFW beneficiary on First aid and use of the provided First aid kit

·         Build skill locally through organizing gabion waving training and production
